I was asked to speak at a conference last week, and I was very excited about it. But, I also didn’t want to spend the day organizing, talking, and preparing. So I thought about how I wanted to begin the conference, and what I wanted to accomplish. As I sat in a conference room, I realized that I wanted to do this and I wanted to do that. But I didn’t know how.
You have to be willing to take the time to get everything done that you want to accomplish, because the things that you want to accomplish are not always things you can do on your own. There is a very real tradeoff between the things that you want to accomplish versus the things that you can accomplish.
The real reason I had to speak in the conference room at all was to complete a very long and frustrating task. The problem was, this task didn’t have any structure. I had no idea this task was even supposed to be done. It was supposed to be a virtual conference agenda. I had to sit in a conference room and write notes and make phone calls to people that I didn’t know when I needed to call someone that I didn’t know.
I have to admit that a lot of our virtual conferences are filled with a lot of people who are on the same page. They have all the same goals they would have if they actually had a real meeting. They are just on different time schedules on the same days, and they dont speak the same language.
This is what I’ve been finding myself doing lately. I think the reason for this is that it’s easier to be on the same page when you are all in the same time zone than to try and make a big difference when you are in different time zones. I find this way of meeting people easier than planning a conference that isn’t going to be in the same time zone, plus I have to set up everything and try and coordinate with the other people and see if it works out.
It’s not just about language, but also about time difference. Because I have to plan everything, I can’t just meet people and figure it all out. I have to go back and forth between meetings so it works out.
You have to plan a lot of things before you can do anything about it.
I agree with you. I have a conference and I keep hearing people state that they have to plan it all before they can actually go to the actual conference. I like that idea because I think it creates a lot of planning in the first place. The one thing that I don’t like is that I have to plan out a lot of things before I actually go to a conference.
We’re on the lookout for a new trailer to show off the new way of creating, and the very next thing we’re going to do is to make the games that are on our desktop really easy to build. It’s a great way to do that.
I personally like to do a lot of work on my websites before I go to a conference. I have meetings on different topics every day and when I get there, I often have a lot of stuff to do. I also like to put a lot of time into my social media, and that includes all kinds of marketing and promotions (which I do personally). But I dont care too much about the actual things that I will be doing, they are just the things that I care about more.
